Boca Paila at Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, Mexico
Sian Ka’an, is a Mayan phrase for “Where The Sky Is Born,” was the first established Biosphere Reserve in Mexico.. The park is sanctuary for the great diversity of plants and animals that live in the savannahs, dunes, wetlands, mangroves and lagoons of the reserve. It is a major nesting ground of two endangered sea turtles species, as well as the adorable manatee. All told, the park is home to nearly 350 species of birds, and over 100 different species of mammals – a true birding paradise.
Sian Ka’an is also a major fishing ground, and is situated on 110km of the second largest barrier reef in the world. It boats many distinct ecosystems – Coral Reef, Beaches, Dunes, Wetlands, Mangroves, Savannahs, Cenotes, Hummocks, Tasistales, Fresh and Brackish Water Lagoons, and Low Tropical Forest. This is truly a legendary natural attraction.
