Happy Christmas Eve! This day was one of the coolest days I’ve ever had! And that is because I got to visit the ruins of Chichen Itza in Yucatan, Mexico. We woke up early in the morning to go on a ferry ride to Playa del Carmen and we boarded a shuttle bus directly to go to Chichen Itza. The transportation just to get there probably took around 6 hours.
Once we were there, we explored the ruins and the tour guide explained some of the history that took place there. He talked about the Mayan calendar and the architecture of the ruins and mentioned that a lot of the statues were of snakes. Even the bottom of the main temple has huge snake heads built there and when the spring solstice comes each year, he said that the light from the Sun will shine on that temple with 365 steps and make a light path that connects to the snake head, making it look like a long snake body.
The ruins were amazing and it’s always interesting to think about how these wonders of the world (this is one of the seven New Wonders of the World) came to be. We didn’t have to much time to run to different buildings so I bought some souvenirs at the stands, which give surprisingly great deals! I got some beautiful magnets for a couple of dollars and some stone statues that I bargained for $8.
Once we got back, it was quite late and we had booked a specialty dining hot pot dinner that the front desk gave to us for free since there was a complaint that my grandma had. xD Anyway, that was delicious and the dessert….mmmm
The show was called Come Fly With Me and it’s an acrobatics show with people strapped to wires flying around the theatre. It was fun and I fell asleep because I was so tired, but tomorrow is Christmas Day! So I can’t wait to meet Santa and open up a gift!
